Get to Know Roberto!
Life is about choices. Some we regret, some we’re proud of. Some will haunt us forever. The message: we are what we chose to be! “Graham Brown”

Hello! Welcome to the O-Pitblast blog, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Roberto and today I will tell you a little bit about myself and my academic and professional journey until I joined the
O-Pitblast team.
Since a young age I have always thrived in getting more information and knowledge and ever since then I knew that Engineering was the path for me. I have always loved Geology, Biology, Chemistry and Maths so an Engineering course was almost a must do for me. When I got to the point of choosing what course I should attend, I didn’t have a clue. So, I put the place I wanted to be in first on the list of possible choices and that was FEUP (Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto). Then I applied to several different Engineering courses and destiny took me
into Mining Engineering. I didn’t know what to expect from the course at first but then the passion shown by the professors made me fall in love with the course.
I graduated in the year of 2017 with a bachelor’s degree and I wanted to get more professional experience so I started sending my CV to every opportunity that I could find. In November I went to an interview for a position in one of the top 10 European companies in construction works, Acciona and was accepted. That is when my professional career started.
I was a Technical Engineer in one of the biggest hydroelectric projects in the Iberian Peninsula (a project with 3 dams and a 6 km tunnel for water deviation)
My first role there was to be in the tunnel production. My responsibilities included directing and managing different sections of the tunnel, managing our own employees and the subcontractor’s as well, executing cost control, analysing potential technical risks of the works, monitoring production, monitoring production processes and executing project implementation in the context of safety quality and environmental policies;
When the part of the tunnel I was working on was finished I was invited to continue working on the project but moved to the Equilibrium Chimney which was a pit with 70 m of depth and 25 m of width. I was responsible for verification and production control, project implementation in the context of safety policies (quality and environment and management of resources) as well as analysis of potential technical risks associated with these works.
When the chimney was finished, they placed me on the final step for every tunnel: the final tunnel lining. This consisted of assembling formwork carriage for tunnels and concreting.
I left this project at the end of 2019 and joined the O-Pitblast team in 2020 where I have remained until today and hope to stay for many years to come!
At O-Pitblast I’m a Sales Supervisor & Executive Account. My main tasks are business development, attending mining conferences and trade fairs as well as developing strategic contacts with universities and projects.
Now that I have told you a bit about my professional background, let me tell you some details about myself. I’m 28 years old and I was born in a town called Paços de Ferreira. I was a happy child growing up, responsible and always tried my best to help everyone. I have always loved sports and technology, so I was usually playing soccer or indoor football. I have played other sports like basketball, handball, among others. I also played computer games in my free time. Now I try to stay fit and I still play indoor football for fun. I enjoy going to the beach, going for walks and watching movies.

Another passion of mine is cars and motorbikes, specially the racing kind. Unfortunately I can only enjoy them on the virtual world or sometimes on the karts’ track. So, if you want to race me just send me a message and we will arrange a time to do that safely on the Playstation :D
Thank you so much for sticking with me until now, I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about myself. If you like this type of content, make sure to subscribe to our blog and follow us on the social networks!
